LouFest Artist Spotlight: Lizzo
Typically, vocal powerhouses like Adele and Celine Dion just kind of...stand there on stage. It's impressive to see, but not the most exciting concert of your life. Then you have Lizzo.
A Lizzo show is the opposite—no one is having more fun than she is. From the moment she steps on stage to the moment she leaves, it's going to be a good time. She doesn't allow herself to get pinned down in one genre, either. Whether she's singing soul, pop, hip-hop, or rock, her voice just works.
“It’s the common denominator between any track—whether we’ve got a West African backbeat, throwback soul, rap groove, or dancehall production. The vocals are the thread that ties the whole story together. It frees me up in a way," she explains.
After putting out a series of singles, EP's, and albums in her early years, she struck gold with 2016's Coconut Oil EP. With well over 7 million Spotify streams in under 6 months, it's safe to say Lizzo is on the right path. "Good as Hell" was her first big hit, and she's quickly followed it up with "Water Me" and "Scuse Me."
Give them a listen below. See you at LouFest for her set.
