LouFest Artist Spotlight: Middle Kids
Straight out of Sydney, Australia, this indie pop trio, comprised of singer Hannah Joy, her guitarist/bassist Tim Fitz, and drummer Harry Day, mixes lo-fi charm with big pop hooks—basically the best part of 90s music. The layered instrumentals and Joy’s beautiful voice give the music a contemporary feel, but the sound is distinctly their own.
Middle Kids released their first single, “Edge of Town”, without ever playing a show—and it ended up being listened to over 5 million times on Spotify, thanks to a shout out from none other than Sir Elton John. No pressure for the rest of the album, right?
In February 2017, Middle Kids released their first album, a six song eponymous EP, then headed stateside to take America by storm. They played SXSW, embarked on a short tour in support of Cold War Kids, then headed back to Australia—where they got to be the opener for none other than Ryan Adams.
It’s safe to say that Middle Kids are on a path most bands can only dream of, so it shouldn’t be much of a surprise when we tell you they’re one of our top bands to check out at this year’s LouFest. When they’re big, you’ll be able to say you saw them way back when! Think about how much bragging you can do.
Expect a full-length album from the band in the coming months. In the meantime, get a taste of what’s in store:
Middle Kids will be playing Saturday, September 9th.
