LouFest Artist Spotlight: Houndmouth
The best bands make it look easy. You imagine they all just happened to come together with guitars, drums, and pianos, and some how, some way, incredible music just happens.
Houndmouth is one of those bands.
With their stellar album debut, From the Hills Below the City, they were instantly shot into the mainstream. They found themselves playing Austin City Limits, Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza, and more, lumped in with other pseudo-Americana artists, like Alabama Shakes and the Lumineers.
Their 2015 release, Little Neon Limelight, broke the Americana chains and set them free. Sure, there are Southern elements to the album—the band is from Nashvilla via Indiana, after all—but it's not the pure Americana we saw from them before. Many have compared them to The Band, and we're inclined to agree: they can do it all.
And, maybe most importantly, they put on an incredible live show.
